Ardisia Leaf
Ardisia silvestris
Ardisia (lá khôi, khôi tía) is a small upright shrub of one and a half to two metres, its soft, hollow stem barely branching, most of its leaves near the top. The leaves are alternate, finely toothed, twenty-five to forty centimetres long, with veins raised in a net; the sort gathered is velvety green above, purple beneath. Small white flowers tinged pink-purple hang in spikes from May to July, then berries ripening red. It grows wild in dense upland forest in Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An, Ninh Bình and Hà Tây, where leaves and shoot tips are picked in summer, wilted in the sun, then dried and stacked in the shade.
