Five-leaved Chaste Tree Extract
Vitex negundo
Five-leaved chaste tree (Vitex negundo) is a shrub or small tree, usually three to five metres tall, its branches covered in a dense, fine grey down. The leaves grow in opposite pairs, each with three to five slender pointed leaflets of pale whitish green, five to ten centimetres long. Small flowers crowd the terminal sprays from May to July, followed by smooth black or yellow berries held in the enlarged calyx. It grows wild and is planted from seed or cuttings across the lowland provinces of Vietnam. The leaves are gathered year-round and used fresh or dried; they are bitter, with a rank smell.
