Peperomia pellucida
Shiny bush (Peperomia pellucida) is a small annual herb of the pepper family, smooth-stemmed and freely branching, reaching twenty to forty centimetres. Its alternate leaves are thin and almost translucent, triangular to heart-shaped and about as wide as they are long, and slender flowering spikes rise from the shoot tips two or three times the length of a leaf, ripening into tiny round berries. Native to South America, the plant is now cultivated and has spread so widely that it grows wild. The leafy stems are what is gathered: roots trimmed away, they are eaten raw as a salad green or simmered in canh soup.
