Soursop Leaf Extract
Annona muricata
Soursop (Annona muricata) is a small tree of six to eight metres, its bark dotted with fine brown lenticels and its alternate, smooth, oval-pointed leaves fragrant. Solitary green and yellow flowers open straight from the trunk and the older branches, and the big ovoid fruit, twenty-five to thirty centimetres long, is covered in straight or curved spines. Native to tropical America, the tree was brought to Vietnam and its fruit is now an everyday one in the southern provinces. The leaves, which carry a pleasant-smelling oil, are picked fresh, used as a flavouring in cooking and steeped in hot water.
