Spearmint
Mentha spicata
Spearmint (Mentha spicata, also written Mentha viridis and called lục bạc hà, green mint, in Vietnamese) is the mint that yields spearmint oil, Oleum Menthae viridis. The species is grown in Europe and the Americas, and the distilled oil has reached Vietnam from China. The oil runs at 0.2 to 0.5 per cent of the plant and is built on carvone, 45 to 60 per cent of it, with pinene and limonene and no menthol at all. Oil distilled in Vietnam from húng dũi, Mentha crispa, gives much the same, 50 to 60 per cent carvone.
