Artichoke Leaf Extract
Cynara scolymus
Artichoke (Cynara scolymus) is a tall, spiny plant of the daisy family, close to a metre high or more, its stems and its deeply cut, prickly leaves carrying a white woolly down, with white hairs on the leaf undersides. Not native to Vietnam, it was introduced and is now grown chiefly at Đà Lạt, Sapa and Tam Đảo, and it will also grow in the lowlands. The leaves are cut as the plant comes into flower, the tough midrib is stripped out, and the blades are dried in the sun or in a drier. The leaf is bitter, from the cynarin in it.
