Jasminum sambac
Jasmine (Jasminum sambac) is a small shrub with many branches that spread outwards and glossy oval leaves 3 to 7 cm long, tapering at tip and stalk, the few-flowered clusters carried at the ends of the shoots; in Vietnamese it is also called nhài đơn, nhài kép and mạt lị. It is planted all over Vietnam for its flowers, which are picked to scent tea and to perfume food. About 0.08% of the flower is a fragrant fatty fraction, its aromatic parts including linalyl esters, methyl anthranilate and indole. Small black berries 6 mm across follow, each ringed by the calyx.
