Notoginseng Bud
Panax notoginseng
Notoginseng (Panax notoginseng, also recorded as Panax pseudoginseng) is a perennial herb 30-50 cm tall, its palmate leaves in whorls of three or four, each with three to seven long, finely toothed leaflets. A single umbel of small pale yellow-green flowers tops the stem from May to July, and flat red berries follow in September. Native to southern China and northern Vietnam, the plant has long been grown, in small quantity, on cold high ground in Hà Giang, Lào Cai and Cao Bằng at 1,200-1,500 metres, under shade frames built to keep the sun off; Yunnan in China grows far more of it.
