Telosma cordata
Tonkin jasmine (Telosma cordata) is a small climbing plant, its stems slightly downy where they are young, its leaves heart-shaped and pointed, 6 to 11 centimetres long. The flowers are large for the plant and come in close-packed clusters on stout stalks, pale greenish-yellow and strongly scented. It is grown throughout Vietnam, most of all in the north, kept both as an ornamental and for the flowers and leaves, which are gathered and cooked into canh, the clear everyday soup. The species also grows in India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and China.
