White Chrysanthemum
Chrysanthemum morifolium
White chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium) is an upright biennial or perennial 0.5 to 1.4 metres tall, covered in soft white hairs, its lobed and toothed leaves grey-felted beneath. The heads are 2.5 to 5 centimetres across, white to faintly purple outside with a yellow centre. Vietnam grows it for those flowers, above all in Nghĩa Trai, Nhật Tân and Tế Tiêu, from stem cuttings set out in May and June and picked from September. The heads are pressed and then dried, five or six kilos of fresh flowers making one kilo dried. They hold an essential oil and are used to scent tea.
