Bupleurum Root Extract
Bupleurum chinense
Bupleurum (Bupleurum chinense) is a perennial of the carrot family, 45 to 70cm tall, its stem branching in a zigzag and carrying narrow lance-shaped leaves 3 to 6cm long, ruled by seven to nine parallel veins. Small yellow flowers form compound umbels at the leaf joints and branch tips, and the ridged oval fruit is about 5mm long. The plant has not been found growing in Vietnam; it comes from China, where it grows in Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Shanxi and Sichuan. The slim, sometimes branched root is the part used, dug in autumn or spring, washed clean of soil and dried in the sun or by gentle heat.
