Climbing Fern
Lygodium flexuosum
Climbing fern (Lygodium flexuosum) is a fern that climbs rather than stands, sending very long fronds up through whatever it meets from a creeping rhizome. Each frond carries many pairs of pinnae, themselves divided into small leaflets that bear the spore cases along their margins; the spores are four-sided and a greyish, faintly yellow white. In Vietnam it is common in scrub and along hedges and field boundaries. The whole plant is taken, gathered through most of the year, and dried in sun or kiln with no further preparation.
