Creeping Launaea
Launaea sarmentosa
Sa sâm (Launaea sarmentosa) is a perennial of the daisy family that spreads along the sandy coasts of Quảng Ninh, Nam Định, Hà Nam, Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh and Quảng Bình, each crown throwing out two or three long thread-like runners. The leaves lie in a flat rosette, five to eight centimetres long and pinnately lobed with sparse uneven teeth, close enough to a dandelion's that the French called it pissenlit maritime; the yellow flower heads are borne singly on short stalks. The soft, pale yellow root is dug in March and April or August and September, washed in rice water, steamed and dried in the sun.
