Cocculus orbiculatus
Cocculus (Cocculus orbiculatus) is a slender climber, herbaceous to slightly woody, with a stem only about 1.5 mm across. Its leaves are broadly to narrowly elliptical or ovate, 3-10 cm long and three-veined at the base; the whitish flowers give way to round, dark blue drupes about 4-5 mm across. The plant ranges from Nepal and India through China, Taiwan and Japan to Indo-China, Thailand and the Philippines, reaching into Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Java. In South-East Asia it often grows near the sea-shore, and sometimes inland on limestone terraces. In Vietnam it is the stem that is gathered; in Thailand the leaves are made into a jelly.
