Kudzu Root Extract

Pueraria montana

Kudzu (Pueraria montana), sắn dây in Vietnamese, is a climbing legume that runs to ten metres, its slightly hairy stems carrying leaves of three lobed leaflets 7 to 15 centimetres long, the hairs lying flat on both faces, with racemes of blue flowers in the leaf axils and long pale-yellow pods thick with hair. It grows wild through the forested mountains of Vietnam but is planted everywhere for its swollen, starchy root. From late October to March or April the roots are dug, peeled, cut into lengths of 10 to 15 centimetres or split, and dried; pounded and filtered repeatedly, they also yield a white starch.
