Mulberry Mistletoe
Taxillus chinensis
Mulberry mistletoe (Taxillus chinensis) is a small woody plant that lives clamped to tree branches rather than rooting in the ground. Its young twigs are yellowish, later hairless and dotted with white breathing pores, and its paired leaves, tapering at the tip, carry a little hair along the veins when young. Cymes in the leaf axils, on short or long stalks, carry flowers one and a half to two and a half centimetres long, green outside and red within, each with four stamens; round or oblong berries follow. It grows wild through Indochina and China, and the whole plant is cut at any season, chopped short and dried.
