Persicaria
Persicaria chinensis
Thồm lồm (Persicaria chinensis) is a perennial herb of the knotweed family, its smooth, grooved stems standing upright at first and then running out long and climbing. The leaves are oval to oblong, rounded at the base and drawn to a narrow point, the upper ones nearly stalkless and clasping the stem with two small rounded ears; the flowers gather into heads on stalks covered in glandular hairs, and the fruit is three-angled. It grows wild all over Vietnam and has never been cultivated. Buffalo and cattle graze it for the sweet taste of the stems. Leaves or the whole plant are used fresh, or dried without further processing.
