Crinum asiaticum
Poison bulb (Crinum asiaticum) is a stout herb growing from a rounded bulb up to 10cm across and 12cm or more long. Its strap-like leaves rise from the base, grooved down the middle, 1 to 1.2 metres long and 5-10cm wide, and a flattened stalk 40-60cm tall carries an umbel of six to twelve large white flowers that turn fragrant towards evening and through the night. It grows wild in damp ground throughout Vietnam, and in India and Indonesia; some households plant it for ornament. The leaves and bulb are the parts gathered, used fresh with no further preparation.
