Puncture Vine Extract
Tribulus terrestris
Puncture vine (Tribulus terrestris) is a low creeping herb that runs flat over the ground on branches 30-60cm long, with opposite leaves of five or six leaflet pairs, downy white underneath, and solitary yellow flowers in the leaf axils in summer. It grows wild on coastal and riverside ground in Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị and Thừa Thiên and the southern provinces. The ripe fruit is what is gathered, in August and September: the plant is pulled or its tops cut, dried, then beaten with a stick to free the fruits. They are used as they are, or lightly roasted to burn off the spines, then sieved and crushed.
