Asparagus Powder
Asparagus officinalis
Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) is a herb of temperate Eurasia whose stem runs underground as a thick rhizome, carrying long spongy roots of 5-6mm, pale brown in colour. Its upright aerial stems are rough with the scars of fallen branches and bear whorls of fine, needle-like branchlets, the true leaves being reduced. The flowers are tiny green bells about 6mm long, grouped four to six in the axils, and the berries that follow are round, fleshy and red. The plant is grown chiefly for its young shoots, cut and eaten as a vegetable; the roots may be lifted at any time of year.
