Mango Powder

Mangifera indica

The mango (Mangifera indica) is a large tree, 15 to 20m tall, with glossy, entire leaves 15 to 30cm long and small pale yellow flowers carried in loose panicles at the ends of the branches. Native to tropical Asia and now planted throughout the tropics, it is a common orchard tree across southern Vietnam and, more recently, in northern provinces such as Sơn La, whose Yên Châu and Mộc Châu mangoes are the best known. The fruit is picked in summer; flesh makes up 60 to 70% of it, starchier when green, sweet when ripe, its tartness coming from citric acid.
