Moringa oleifera
Moringa (Moringa oleifera), the horseradish tree, is a fast-growing, much-branched tree or shrub of three to ten metres, native to northern India and Pakistan and brought into South-East Asia at an early date; it is now cultivated throughout the tropics, and known in Vietnamese as chùm ngây. In South-East Asia no commercial plantings have ever been established: trees are planted in home gardens or to mark boundaries. Its long, three-angled, dagger-shaped pods ripen from green to brown, and 100-115 days after flowering they are opened for the winged seeds inside. Fried, those seeds taste like groundnuts; they also yield the edible ben oil.
