Mulberry Leaf Powder
Morus alba
Mulberry leaf (Morus alba) is taken from a tree that can reach fifteen metres but is usually kept to two or three by constant picking. Its alternate leaves are oval, sometimes cut into three lobes, coarsely toothed at the edge, with three clear veins fanning out from the stalk, and the small fruits crowd together into a compound berry that ripens from red to near-black, which is edible. The tree came originally from China, was brought into Vietnam long ago and is now grown all over the country, chiefly for leaves to feed silkworms. The leaf holds only a trace of essential oil.
