Red Rice Powder

Oryza sativa

Red rice is a grain of rice (Oryza sativa), an annual grass of tropical Asia standing 0.7 to 1.5 metres tall, its long, rough-edged blades rising from a tall pale sheath. The flowering panicle carries many small yellowish spikelets, each bristled and each ripening into a single grain held so tightly by its husk that the two come away together. Rice is grown as a staple food almost everywhere and harvested the year round, and the grain, the bran and the roots are all put to use. Husked, the grain is the centre of the Vietnamese meal.
